Christopher Ward overview
The British luxury watchmaker Christopher Ward is the brainchild of three men, Mike France, Chris Ward and Peter Ellis. Headquartered in Maidenhead Berkshire, the company was founded in 2004 as the first online luxury watch brand. As an online retailer, the company has been able to bridge the gap between it and its consumers. By bridging this gap, the company has made it possible for more people to afford high-quality luxury Swiss watches. In the 12 years that the firm has been in the watch making industry it has received a number of accolades, including being the only watchmaker to be ranked in the Sunday Times’ SME Export Track 100 in 2015.
The release of the first Christopher Ward watch in 2005 announced the company’s entry into the lucrative watch making business. Seven years after the release of its first watch, Christopher Ward was declared the official timing partner of the Bluebird speed record team. In 2014, the company marked yet another milestone in its short but illustrious history when it merged with Swiss watchmaker Synergies Horlogères SA to create Christopher Ward Holdings Limited.
In 2014 also, the company rolled out its first in-house line of watches, the Calibre SH21. Designed in the UK and entirely made in Switzerland, the SH21 line of watches was hailed as the biggest improvement in the British watch making industry in over 50 years. Similar to the SH21 all Christopher Ward watches are designed in the UK and manufactured in Switzerland.
Christopher Ward was founded to serve one main purpose, make luxury Swiss watches affordable to everyone. To make this possible the founders adopted a unique business model that cut out middlemen. Also, under the model, the company was to sell its products directly to consumers via the web and thus cutting down on costs used in offline marketing. Also, the company effectively did away with pre-internet distribution means used by other Swiss watch brands. Apart from the internet, the company’s watches are also available in its two showrooms. One showroom is located in its headquarters in Maidenhead, and the other is situated in Nashua, New Hampshire USA.
In keeping true to its business model, Christopher Ward does not sponsor or endorse celebrities or sports teams. Instead, the company supports young talent through its Challenger Program. Some of the beneficiaries of the program include graduates who wanted to climb a new peak in Tajikistan. The new mountain was later named Mount Christopher Ward in honour of the company.
Christopher Ward has a broad range of watches for consumers to select from. Of the many Christopher Ward watches available on the market, the range of Trident C60 dive watches is one of the most popular. This premium dive watch comes in three strap variants, steel, leather and rubber. Another interesting Christopher Ward watch is the C1000 typhoon FGR4 ceramic watch. The latter’s design is inspired by the FGR4 Typhoon multi-role combat jet and is the first Christopher Ward watch to have a high-tech ceramic casing.
